How to Get Out of Your Own Way When Hiring Your Executive Team: The 5 Tenets of Intentional Executive Search

November 21, 2019 @ 1:45 pm 2:35 pm

Searching for an executive is quite different from hiring an individual contributor. The stakes are higher and the role is more unique. You don’t have the luxury of saying, “I need another engineer with similar skills to the five engineers down the hall.” What’s more, there are often numerous stakeholders, each with a distinct ‘wish list’— the CEO, the Board, investors, other members of the leadership team, and people who will report to the new executive. Whether you are doing the recruiting yourself or partnering with an executive search firm, you will learn some tips from the trenches. We will discuss:
* Designing the role and selling the role at the same time – even if it is the first time you are hiring for the role
* Moving from ‘post and pray’ to ‘scout and sell’
* Paying attention to the 4 A’s – aptitude, attitude, altitude, and agility
* Balancing stakeholder involvement with speed
* Finding the fine line between consistency and personalization for your candidates
* Measuring success beyond the traditional ‘time to fill’ and ‘cost to fill
